Where is Gaye when you need her!

I HATE GETTING HURT! Stupid Blocking!
I'm going to reminisce for a minute. So I don't talk about volleyball much anymore, but today, I miss Gaye! She was our fabulous trainer at BYU. Let me enlighten you on what I am missing out on as a retired BYU volleyball player. I would spend HOURS in the training room getting both feet taped, soaking up to my neck in a huge ice tub, popping blisters, acupuncture with electric current in my butt, rub downs, heat ultrasounds, back adjustments, 10 bags of ice wrapped all over my body as I went to class, picking tape residue off my feet and legs, heat packs on my back, rehab for injuries, stem on my shoulder just so I could play the next day! We just loved the training room! (Help me out girls if I missed some). So, when I get hurt now, it is a shock to not have help! I hurt my thumb blocking playing in city league in Murray. I ran off the court right away to get ice because I knew the crunch I felt was bad. The funny thing is, even though it has been years since I played at BYU, I was subconsciously looking for my trainer! I had to drive a half hour by myself home and then went to the instacare to get x-rays. Gaye would never have let her athletes wait that long for an x-ray! Wow we were spoiled! Did I mention we had endless supply of blue poweraid? (That's the best flavor by far!) Now I'm sure you must be thinking, stop complaining! You athletes get so dang much! Well to tell you the truth, it was amazing how we were treated. However, the back, knee, shoulder, hand, ankle problems, chronic shin splints and not to mention huge knuckles from getting jammed all the time are things that a 25 year old should not have to deal with. And they get worse everyday, especially without Gaye! Would I do it all over again? YUP!

So there was no break, just a bad sprain and deep bruise. Can you tell?
My new colorful Hand
This was after the swelling went down. I had a fat hand!
